Salvation Ensures Our Future, not Elections…

Well, yesterday was the day. “The most important election in the history of our country!” That’s what we were told. “Democracy is at stake,” and that is the mantra of both parties.  Now, before I go further I must make something very clear. I believe in the goodness of the United States of America. I love my country. I have voted, and I would encourage you to do the same.

But I must also make this statement.  If every election is the most important one in history, then no election is truly important at all.  And we have been told over and over that the next election is indeed the one.  Again, it is true that elections are important. They have consequences.  I believe that every committed follower of Christ should register to vote and then participate in our election process. In fact, we need more believers to run for public office.

But I will never change my mind on what I am about to say. Our salvation is not to be found in the ballot box.  As important as elections are, our salvation is found only in and through God’s Son Jesus.  In John 14 Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except by me.”  It is my hope that every believer will realize that.  Jesus gave His life that we might be forgiven. He has promised us an eternal home in heaven. No politician can make that offer.  If one makes that kind of promise you can be certain it is a lie.

Listen, as I already told you, I voted. And last night I watched the results on TV, anxious to know who has won certain offices.  But as of today I remain certain of this. God is still on the throne, and those who trust in Him are going to win in the end.  You can count on it. I’ve read the end of the book. God wins.
